About Us

Camryn:
The youngest of the bunch is Camryn.  She is our spunky, adorable, never at a loss for words 9 year old who is just finishing up 3rd grade in June.  She enjoys dance, girl scouts, soccer, anything animal related, choir, and all things electronic :)

Callie:
Callie is our oldest and never lets Camryn forget it.  She is thoughtful, caring, and a super hard worker.  She is just finishing up her last few weeks of 5th grade and will be moving on to middle school in the fall.  Big changes!  She loves her friends, swimming, choir, the outdoors, and soccer along with her kitty Oreo.  She will also be celebrating her 12th birthday on an island in the Gulf of Thailand!

Cathy:
I was bitten by the travel adventure bug when I was 17 and thankfully I haven’t recovered yet!  At 17, I graduated high school and spent the next year as a Rotary exchange student in Chambery, France with my two amazing French families.  While there, I learned that the world can be simultaneously so vast and yet so small.  It seems people everywhere largely share similar hopes and fears, but with different traditions, norms, languages, and barriers.

I just completed 18 years with General Mills and will be transitioning to a new opportunity, so this is the perfect window to pass some of these learnings on to Callie and Camryn, while Derik and I build out a new set of adventures together.  When given this gift of time (aka, the resource always in shortest supply), we instantly began to dream about the best way to spend it. What initially started as a trip to D.C. morphed to a trip through the Western US and before we knew it we were planning a trip heading West until we circled the world!  This should make for some good rocking chair conversations later in life.

I’m so excited that adventure will allow me to enjoy some of the things I love to do in new and different places: yoga in Bali, new cuisines in Tokyo and Thailand, wine in Italy, spending time with friends – the new ones I hope to meet along our journey, and of course time with my family, which is the whole point of this adventure anyway.  Cheers!

Derik:
Full time dad, referee, chauffeur etc.  I also like trekking, climbing, and do an occasional 5k, Ironman, or double marathon.  I love my girls (Cathy included) and cannot wait to share this little slice of the world with the girls.

I'm the primary travel planner when it comes to the nuts and bolts of how to get from one place to the next.  I figure out accommodations, airport transfers, hotels, hostels, airbnbs... you name it.  I pretty much have looked at this trip in every possible way.  While i'm sure there will be hiccups, dealing with them is actually half the fun.

Cathy and I have had the good fortune of being able to not only travel internationally pretty extensively, but we've both lived internationally as well.  Cathy spent a year in the French Alps and and I spent a semester in London.  Both experiences really ignited the spark for not letting dust collect on the passports.  Callie is on her third Passport already :)
